The paper you find here represents the recent copy about how to test material of
commercial vehicles (CV) - Determination of friction behaviour by machine testing as per
E/ECE/324/Rev.1/Add.89/Rev.3
E/ECE/TRANS/505/Rev.1/Add.89/Rev.3
Addendum 89: Regulation No. 90.
Annex 9 – item 2.2.2.2.
Test schedule with constant torque (KM)

The test is done using an SS60 brake testing the material as samples / coupons
at the dimensiosn of 52 mm x 84 mm x 10 mm thick.

Worldwide this test is called the "KRAUSS-TEST" and is competitive
to the FAST-Test or Chase-Test as per SAEJ661 which are using a smaller sample size.
The advantage to these tests is the friction material area of 44 cm² used for testing,
since it gives a much better indication of the friction behaviour. The test is also used
as common practice in the friction industry for testing of industry material like for
roller coasters, cranes, lifts and other brake applications.

It will create this kind of graph including the friction characterstics µ shown.

Test plan & Sample preparation

Image

For comparing AfterMarket material to OE material a test plan and proper sample preparation
is essential for gaining correct results. In this paper you can find a test plan and one way of preparing
coupons cut out of full size disc brake pads of commercial vehicles (CV).
